AMD introduces the new Radeon RX 6800, RX 6800XT and RX 6900XT

Higher performance than RTX 3000 and lower price.

AMD has just finished the presentation of the new GPUs based on RDNA 2 technology. The new Radeon RX 6800, RX 6800XT and RX 6900 XT will offer superior performance or in line with 3070, 3080 and 3090 respectively but at lower prices.

In particular, the RX 6800 which corresponds in terms of performance to Nvidia's RTX 3070, will perform better than the RTX 2080 TI and will be offered at a price of $ 579. The RX 6800 XT, the card that will have to compete with the RTX 3080 in the high end of the market and which incidentally is the card whose benchmarks were shown a few days ago, during the presentation of the new ZEN 3 processors, will be offered to a price of 649 $.

The RX 6900 XT, on the other hand, presented as a surprise by Lisa Su at the end of the conference, will have performances equal to or superior to the NVIDIA RTX 3090 at a very attractive price. $ 999 versus $ 1499 for the 3090.

Technical features

The GPUs are all part of the BigNavi 21 family and will be built with a 7nm production process, which will allow a performance leap of 54% in terms of performance / watt ratio compared to the previous generation in the case of RX 6800 and RX 6800XT and even the 65% in the case of the RX 6900XT. On the RAM front, however, the new GPUs will all be equipped with 16GB of GDDDR6 memory

Technologies for a new era of PC Gaming

AMD also showed the technologies that will represent the backbone of RDNA 2 of the future, among them "Infinity Cache", Which should provide GDDR6 memories with a boost useful to compete with Nvidia's GDDR6X, as well as a new technology called"Direct storage”Which will allow direct access to storage by the GPU, not unlike what was seen on the Xbox Series X with its super SSD and Ps5 (the latter, however, uses a highly customized version of this technology).

new AMD RADEON RX 6800 e RX 6800XT will arrive on the market on 18st November. While for the RX 6900 XT we will have to wait for8th December.

Although the performance and prices of the AMD Radeon RX 6000 are amazing, it will be necessary to wait for the reviews in the field of the new cards that should not be long in coming. In fact, despite being the new Radeon 6000 equipped with specific hardware for Ray Tracing, it has not deepened the performance discourse with active Ray Tracing, an aspect instead, on which the competitor NVIDIA has repeatedly trodden the hand in its presentation.
