If you manage your email with Gmail and you are almost out of space, you can free up space on Gmail deleting all the messages that you deem unnecessary or just the attachments without necessarily having to delete the messages as well.

How much space does Gmail offer? You have to consider that Gmail offers 15 GB and these include not only Gmail mail but also data from all other Google services you use, such as Google Drive. If you have been using Gmail for a long time, you may have very old messages or contacts in your inbox that you no longer care about, not to mention attachments.

By following the tips below you can tidy up your Gmail inbox and delete everything you don't need by recovering important space.

Over time it is possible to accumulate thousands of emails on Gmail with even quite large attachments, so it is necessary to take action to delete all that junk that you may have already read or downloaded. Therefore? In this article I will reveal to you how to free up space on Gmail through a very useful free program called IMAPSize, all you have to do is keep reading and take five minutes of your time.

IMAPSize allows you to delete attachments only while keeping old messages to manage your IMAP mail account in a simple and effective way. Before proceeding, you need to log in to Gmail through your browser. For this reason it is necessary to go in Settings / Forwarding e POP / IMAP and make sure IMAP access is active.

Then start IMAPSize and set up your Gmail account. You must enter the email address, password, Server (, Port (993), and click OK.

Then click on the button Check Size and wait.

By double clicking you will be able to download the messages contained and sort them by size so as to find the ones that take up the most space. By clicking on it with the right button it will be possible to delete only the attachments or download them to the PC.

If, on the other hand, you want to free up space on Gmail manually, you can tidy up and recover space by following the steps listed:

Empty the trash. It seems obvious but the trashed messages remain available on Gmail for 30 days before they are actually deleted

Delete Drafts. You may have forgotten messages in the Drafts section, deleting them is a way to save space.

Spam messages. Messages classified as spam are not deleted immediately but remain available for 30 days. By deleting them you will free up space immediately.

Delete attachments. Typing in the search box has: attachment, you will be able to see all the attachments in your Gmail inbox and delete the ones you no longer need. You can also decide to delete only bulky attachments by typing in the search box size: 5m, to see and delete those larger than 5 MB.

Delete specific messages. You can also delete messages from an unwanted sender. In the search box, write the name of the contact to view and delete the messages received.

Search options. Click on the arrow to the right of the search field to access options di search. Use the menu to delete specific messages or messages prior to a certain date.

Manage function. As you scroll down the Gmail window, you will see the Manage link on the left. Here you can see in detail what takes up the most space in all the Google services you use.

If all these efforts aren't enough to free up space, you can make the decision to sign up for a subscription with Google and buy extra space to store your documents.

By going to the Google storage space, and clicking on the link (under the pie chart) Show details, in the window that appears you will be able to view the details of the Gmail storage space.

If the 15 GB free provided by Google are not enough, you can decide to increase Gmail space with a monthly payment. Increasing the amount of GB is not difficult and not too expensive. The first step is to always go to the Google storage page, where you can choose a storage plan among those proposed. It starts from 100 GB at the price of 2 euros per month, 1 TB at the price of 10 euros per month until reaching the highest cut: 30 TB at a cost of 300 euros per month.

The higher floors are naturally designed for companies and professional needs. 100 GB is more than enough for normal use.
