Logitech Z333 review

Logitech Z333 review

An entry level system with a powerful and clean sound.

When the time comes to buy new speakers for the PC, the first doubt that assails anyone is which product to rely on given the wide choice on the market. The decision then becomes even more difficult when you come from a specific brand and want to change, whether it is out of dissatisfaction or to "expand your horizons".

Generally, the average user has no particular needs and leans towards a 2.1 system that is not too expensive but, at the same time, is able to offer good audio quality that can satisfy hearing in any type of activity, whether it watching movies, listening to music or whatever.

If you are looking for speakers that marry with these characteristics and whose price is around 60€, Logitech Z333 they are what you are looking for.

Packaging and design

Externally, the package reflects the standards of each product, with an image of the speakers on the front and their main features on the back. Inside, the Z333s are perfectly packed with cardboard “boxes” for each single component, thus avoiding any problem in the event of unwanted collisions. The content is essential, without any particular frills such as stickers and the like: two speakers for mids / highs, a subwoofer with attached volume control unit and the instruction booklet.

Il design of the Logitech Z333 is simple but aesthetically elegant, with a square shape and matte black plastics that gives a sense of "fake wood". Excellent build quality, as both the speakers and the subwoofer are very solid; their dimensions are also contained and do not lead to a particular encumbrance: the two satellites measure 192 mm x 108 mm x 90 mm (height x width x depth) for a weight of 600 g each, while the subwoofer measures 230 mm x 232 mm x 157 mm (height x width x depth) for a weight of 2,5 kg. The subwoofer, in addition to having 3.5 mm inputs, also has a stereo RCA input, expanding its "area of use".

A 'control unit a special position that can be positioned on the desk, then, allows you to turn on / off the speakers (complete with green status LED), adjust the volume by moving the wheel clockwise or counterclockwise and, if necessary, connect headphones comfortably thanks to the jack 3.5 placed on one side. A small flaw, unfortunately, concerns the length of the cables: measuring all 150 cm could be a "problem" where the distance between the speakers and the device to which they are connected (for example, a large TV in the living room) should be greater.

Our test

Generally, a technological product that does not have a particularly high price immediately ends up in the pit of prejudices, due to which to have an excellent audio quality it is necessary to spend well over sixty euros (even if we are talking about simple PC speakers) . Well, if this reasoning can be passable when it comes to brands with dubious reliability, it is not at all if it is extended to very famous brands with a long experience behind them, including Logitech. The Z333s, in my opinion, are worth more than the price at which they are sold and are capable of delivering really good sound quality for an entry level 2.1 system.

First of all, despite the small size of the speakers and, in particular, of the subwoofer, the Z333s are able to release a considerable power: the two satellites are 8W each with an impedance of 4 ohms, while the 24W subwoofer has a impedance of 8 ohms. The result is one continuous power of 40W and a maximum peak of 80W with a frequency response from 40 Hz to 20 kHz (although the minimum reported is 55 Hz, during the tests the subwoofer made itself heard up to 40 Hz).

The test was carried out in a medium-sized room both in the musical and in the cinematographic field, and in both cases I was pleasantly satisfied. The sound is clear and clean as far as highs and mids are concerned, although the former are not particularly crystal clear and, consequently, do not bring out the best, for example, from singers who have high vocal tones. The bass, on the other hand, is really deep and powerful and can be adjusted thanks to a special wheel positioned behind the subwoofer, so that it can be adapted to suit your needs and hearing.

Finally, to really put the Z333 under pressure, I turned up the volume a lot to look for any weaknesses, but showed no sign of distortion or vibration of some plastic; this, therefore, offers further confirmation of the excellent build quality mentioned above.

Final comment

Despite having been launched in 2014, the Logitech Z333 they are still a very good product and, undoubtedly, they are one of the best entry level 2.1 systems available on the market. The sound is clear and clean, although the highs are slightly subdued, and the same goes for the intense, deep and adjustable bass to your liking. Also, if you like to keep the volume high, the Z333s show no sign of distortion. To the excellent sound quality, then, there is also a perfect build quality, with solid and aesthetically simple but elegant speakers and subwoofers. The quality / price ratio, in short, is really high, as by spending about € 60 you can take home a 2.1 sound system suitable for any use, whether it is for listening to music, watching movies or playing video games.

For Cons
- Clear and clean sound, powerful bass ... - Excellent build quality - No distortion at high volume - High quality / price ratio - ... but the highs are not particularly crystal clear - Cables not very long
