Jabra Elite Active 75t review, are these the anti Airpods?

The market for True Wireless headphones has quickly become one of the most "populated" in the history of consumer electronics, with solutions ranging from a few tens of euros to the more expensive proposals from Apple and Sony. Jabra's proposal with its Elite 65t already last year had made the antennas of fans straight up in search of something different from the usual Airpods and today, with the Elite Active 75t, the Danish company presents perhaps the most versatile Total Wireless Earbuds and complete currently in circulation.

Design and ergonomics

Evolution of the 65t, the Jabra Elite Active 75t are the result of a complete redesign by Jabra engineers, which made the earphones in question about 20% smaller than the previous model and above all more stable when worn. In fact, the revised shape now allows you to anchor more comfortably to your ear, without forcing you to push the earbuds deeper into the ear canal, which is why a good portion of users (including myself) tend not to prefer in-ear headphones. . The design of the Jabra Elite Active 75t is in fact studied to unload the weight of the earphones on the tragus and antitragus which in this way also act as an anchor for the headphones themselves, in a way not unlike Airpods (which, however, thanks to the microphone stem add an additional fastening element). In this way the headphones can also be used by those who have a not very deep ear canal and usually cannot use in-ear headphones because they tend to fall out. Let's be clear that of Jabra is not a stable solution like that of Apple Airpods (which, however, are not in-ear headphones), but it definitely helps.

Unboxing Jabra Elite Active 75t

The outer case is also much more compact than the previous model, measuring approximately 6cm in length and 4cm in height with a depth of just 2,5cm. The rounded shapes also help to make it very comfortable even in your pocket. The opening of the charging case is magnetized and we would like to confirm that accidental opening is really unlikely. In any case, the headphones inside are also fixed with a magnet, minimizing the risk of losing them. The case is also available in both standard and wireless charging versions.

Although they share the same design and dimensions with the Jabra Elite 75t, the Active version adds a particular rubber finish, also used on the case, able to further increase grip. The Jabra Elite Active 75t, as the name “Active” suggests, are in fact headphones dedicated to sportsmen and therefore have been designed with a series of precautions necessary to protect them from sweat, humidity and atmospheric events. These have enabled the earbuds to achieve IP57 certification for isolation from dust and water splashes. The number 7 in the certification code actually indicates the ability to withstand a dive for over 30 minutes at a depth of one meter, so much so that we could even define them as "waterproof" (don't get strange ideas though ... you can't use them for swimming …).

Although we cannot define ourselves as assiduous sportsmen, we would like to advise you without hesitation the Active version compared to the "non Active" version, not only because there are just a 20ina euro difference at stake, but also because its features will be particularly useful to you. in contexts other than sports, for example on the beach, where sand and salt are the number one enemy of headphones of this type.

As previously mentioned, the dimensions and weight of the Jabra Elite Active 75t are extremely small, with the external part of the headset measuring just one and a half centimeters (the case measures 62.4 x 36.6 x 27mm) and weighing just 5,5g per earphone (35g the case). This makes them very comfortable even for rather long listening and not particularly uncomfortable if worn on a scooter under a helmet.

Before moving on to the more technical aspects and to conclude the aesthetic and design aspect, it is good to remember that the Jabra Elite Active 75t are available in different colors including Navy, Copper Black, Titanium Black, Gray, Mint e Sienna: the latter, which is also the test color, frankly among the most original and chic colors you can find for a pair of earbuds.

Audio Quality

The Jabra Elite Active 75t are passive noise canceling total wireless in-ear bluetooth headphones. By in-ear headphones we mean those headphones that, thanks to the elongated shape towards the ear canal and the presence of silicone caps (in the package of these Jabra there are silicone gel earcups of three different sizes), allow you to seal the ear canal from external noises. Headphones of this type have two advantages, the first is that they do not need an active noise cancellation system, as the noise cannot filter (or does so in a very limited way) inside your ear and the second is that in this way the yield of the lower frequencies improves significantly, giving back dry and precise bass. The concept if you like is the same as for "sealed" subwoofers: the air sealed inside your ear canal acts as a damper, gently modulating the movement of the cone of the small headphone driver so that all notes are produced in a way uniform.

The intrinsic characteristics of the in-ear headphones that improve bass performance are also enhanced by a certain tendency of all Jabra earphones and headphones to emphasize the low frequencies, which makes the sound signature of the headphones of the Danish manufacturer particularly appreciated by lovers prominent bass.

Despite a certain preponderance of the lower frequencies, the Jabra headphones are however extremely pleasant also as regards the yield of the high and medium frequencies, being decidedly well balanced and able to offer a good spatiality despite the extremely small size of the earphones of this type. . In any case, if you don't like this type of equalization, the Sound + app allows you to reduce the incidence of bass and improve the rendering of mid-tones, perhaps one of the few points where you feel a certain lightness.

Audio on call

As expected from Jabra, the leader in professional headphones, the Jabra Elite Active 75t earphones are practically perfect for your calls.

The voice of your interlocutor is always very clear, while yours, thanks to the presence of four microphones capable of effectively canceling external noise, will be reproduced without excessive distortions and with good fidelity to the original tone of voice. In short, your interlocutor will have no problem understanding you and recognizing your voice (Fantozzi is she ??).

The Jabra Elite Active 75t also have a feature called “Sidetone”, which can be activated from the Sound + app, which allows you to hear your voice during phone calls.

Infinite autonomy

Jabra declares an autonomy of 7,5 hours with a single charge and the data, compared to our field test, is quite true, even if the volume at which you listen must always be considered in order to have a comparable result. The earphones, however, have exceeded all our wildest expectations having managed to exceed five days of use without any recharge and with an average use of about 1h and a half a day. To make a comparison that gives a good idea, with the Airpods 2 we stopped for just a couple of days.

The headphone case offers even more power to your Jabra, allowing you to fully charge the earbuds four more times, before needing to recharge via USB-TypeC or wireless.

Even smarter

The Jabra Elite Active 75t are equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 technology thanks to which the pairing with Android and Apple devices is practically instantaneous and the range is incredibly stable up to about 10m. However, Bluetooth 5.0 has another huge advantage: support for multipoint technology that allows you to connect two devices at the same time and switch between one and the other seamlessly. For example, you can keep the earphones connected to your Macbook while listening to music and at the same time answer the phone calls that arrive on your android smartphone. The music in this case will be immediately interrupted to make room for the call and resume when the call is closed.

Like all True Wireless earphones, the Elite Active 75t are also equipped with special features to control calls, music and activate the voice assistant. Compared to other competing solutions, Jabra has chosen to use two physical buttons for their activation and this choice makes us absolutely happy. The button on the left earphone activates the mode with a single press HeartTrough which, by capturing the external audio from the four microphones present, allows you to have greater attention to the surrounding world. By pressing the left button twice, you skip to the next track, pressing it three times, instead, to the previous one. Long press is used to lower the volume. The right earphone, on the other hand, allows with a single press to answer a call or to start / pause the selected music playback; with a double press to activate the personal assistant and with a long press to turn up the volume. However, this control scheme can be modified at will thanks to the MyControls functionality, recently introduced by the Sound + app.

The Jabra Elite Active 75t are also equipped with a proximity sensor that works very well: once removed from the case the headphones automatically pair with the last connected device while, when on the ear, if removed for a short period the sensor automatically puts pause playback to resume it immediately when you wear it.

Sound + app, not just equalization

There is one aspect of Jabra that often makes me prefer them to all the other headphones and earphones I've dealt with for one reason or another: the Sound + app. Over the years this application has improved so much, introducing countless features and tricks that, as far as I'm concerned, it can be considered an absolute benchmark in the sector of companion apps for audio devices.

The app has a truly superb equalization system capable of precisely modifying the performance of your earphones, with sometimes surprising results. In addition to presets optimized for some musical genres, which are generally very satisfying, Sound + allows you to record your own and save them in the user settings.

With the latest update Sound + has also introduced the “Soundscapes” feature: 12 audio presets that produce noises that are useful for relaxing and relieving tension. We go from pink or white noise, to the sounds of nature such as rain, a storm, the sound of a waterfall, or if you prefer, that of a crowded shopping center (de gustobus…). If Soundscapes sounds like a gimmick to you, know that more than once its presets have been essential for insomnia (pink noise) or for canceling annoying noises coming from for example a noisy roommate or an excessively crowded street at night.

The app has also recently introduced two interesting features: MyControls e MySound.

The first, as mentioned previously, allows you to customize the function of the earphone buttons and enable the mono function, with which one of the two earphones is deactivated: when you are in the car and you do not need to listen to music, but only to perform calls, this function saves battery.

MySound instead it carries out a real audiometric test of your hearing to offer you a personalized listening experience.

Another essential feature for true wireless headphones is Find My Jabra which allows you to detect the last position of your headphones.

Final comment

The Jabra Elite Active 75t are probably among the best true wireless earbuds we've had the chance to try in years. Ergonomics, design, autonomy, audio quality, there is practically not a single aspect where these earphones do not shine offering a balanced solution in practically all aspects that matter. The choice to continue on the path of passive isolation, despite Jabra with its Elite 85h has already shown that it knows how to do it even with active noise cancellation, is a smart choice because, while offering an effectiveness absolutely comparable to that of ANR headphones , it does not do so at the expense of autonomy. Bluetooth 5.0 and multipoint functions make them perfect companions for mobile productivity thanks to the ability to connect to multiple devices at the same time.

The offer of these Jabra Elite Active 75t is completed by the Sound + app, increasingly interesting and complete in terms of functionality and ease of use but above all the IP57 certification which makes them perfect for sportsmen, of course, but also for all those who want to enjoy their music by the sea or in the open air without too many worries of mind.

If you are looking for your next high-end true wireless earbuds, priced at $ 200 on Amazon for the version with wireless case (about $ 197 for the version with standard case and "mint" color), the Jabra Elite Active 75t are probably the your best option.
