Rise of The Tomb Raider, here's how Expedition mode and cards work

A new mode promises to make ROTTR's online experience even more fun.

With Rise of the Tomb Raider, the Live team wanted to offer their players a different, customizable and new experience. Thus was born the "Expedition Experience“, Where Expedition cards are at the center of it all.
These cards are mainly of three types. Some provide bonuses such as increasing the damage dealt by melee attacks or resulting in faster health regeneration; others make the game more difficult by removing the ability to regenerate health or making some enemies immune to certain attacks. Finally, other cards have a purely fun purpose and include giant heads, chicken-shaped arrows or exploding enemies.

Cards can be purchased in packs either with credits earned by completing the campaign or by completing specific tasks in Expedition Mode. Credits can also be earned throughout the story by exploring the game world, completing challenge tombs, side missions and recovering the backpacks of dead companions.

All cards can then be used in any Expedition mode. The first mode, Chapter Replay, allows you to relive any moment of the campaign using skills and equipment from that point in the story onwards. With Chapter Replay Elite you will be able to go back and replay an earlier moment with all the skills and weapons obtained at the end of the campaign.

Score Attack, on the other hand, it is the mode dedicated to speed runners and more experienced players. It is a kind of arcade mode complete with pop-up scores and combo chains. This mode lends itself particularly to being the preferred one for those looking for goals and ways to improve their performance.
During the Rise of the Tomb Raider campaign, every single level completed will be unlocked for Score Attack mode by recording the performance of the single mission in order to provide an objective to improve in the second run. Expedition cards play an important role in this mode, as each card will have a bonus multiplier to the final score.
In general, cards that make your game experience easier will lower your score, as opposed to cards that increase the difficulty. To reach the top of the leaderboard, obviously, you will need to use the cards that make the game more difficult.

The system will also allow you to find out what's behind your friends 'or other players' scores on the leaderboard. In fact, you can find out which card has been used and decide to spend your credits to temporarily purchase that precise card and challenge the leader of the ranking with his own means, without necessarily having to buy the same card permanently.

In these modalities they were included more than 500 challenges to test your skill, from speed runs, through to killing a bear with melee attacks, you will really have to be very very good to solve them all.

The Expedition Cards concept has its highest moment in the mode Remnant Resistance. In fact, you can use your cards to create Lara's custom missions during her work with Remnant against Trinity. You can choose locations, objectives, weapons and a target for your mission. Once the customization is complete you can upload it to the servers with your customized leaderboard to challenge all your friends. After one week, the player with the highest score will receive bonus credits based on how many people have played your custom mission.
This opens up the game to endless customizations and makes multiplayer even more fun and addicting. It will obviously be possible to play only missions that have created others and not try your hand at your own creation, and also in this case you will earn credits but above all you will see how the different Expedition Cards work even if you do not own them, as only the creator must possess them in order to create the level.
