Hollow Knight, guide and lore: Verdevia II

Continue our adventure in the dark world of Hollow Knight. We are in the verdant lands of Verdevia, in pursuit of a mysterious figure dressed in red. We stopped at the bench at the bottom right of the map.

From here we go back into that large square area with three paths. Currently we will ignore this area and we will go back up, to continue along the corridor that goes to the left. In this first room, after passing the Obedelle, there is a block of Geo, but beware of the Devorasciocchi that precedes it! Above this you find instead the path to go forward. In the next area there are two equivalent roads, one at the top which is currently unreachable. Below we will get to know a new enemy, the Mossy Rhinodon. This beast, typical of Verdevia, will turn out to be a small creature covered in leaves, which will charge you from one side of the corridor. You will have to hit him to take off his protection and then hit him again to do him damage, before he burrows underground. Three hits should be enough to take him out. In the upper path there is another Rhinodon and a block of Geo, but for now it is also unreachable from the other side. Come back here when we have finished exploring Greenevia to get it.

On the trail of the mysterious insect

Moving on there are various Indolent Mosses, which shouldn't bother you, and then two other Rhinodonts. Close to the last, again that mysterious figure armed with a pin. Once again it will flee as soon as we try to get close. Currently follow it, even if going to the right, up, there is another path: ignore it. Below you, before entering the next area, you may notice a glow. Don't worry: this item can only be collected much later in the adventure. If you can, mark it with a pin. In the next room there is again the insect in red, which will continue upwards. Here before we go on let's explore.

Below us is a black statue of those containing souls. As you advance through the brambles you will notice a road to the top, to be ignored for now. At the bottom instead there is another totem: “Our life is extracted from moss and leaves. As long as they continue to grow on the path, we will never wither ”.

Continuing into the next room, we are for now in a dead end very particular. We can jump on the floating enemy in front of us and reach the platform, but it is currently not possible to continue. We can go back to the mysterious figure and follow it once again.

Climbing among the brambles

We are now in a large room where we have to climb to the top. Immediately on the left there is a block of Geo to recover. As you go up, watch out for enemies. You will come to a blocked path with a bench behind. On the left, a machine will allow you to pay the small amount of 50 Geo to unlock the checkpoint. But not only: by opening the path you will also unlock the way to continue.

Continuing to climb from here, at some point you will encounter one road to the right, to be ignored for the moment. At the top, always paying attention to the enemies, there is another passage, and it is from there that we must continue. Here, going up again, we find another totem: "One time lin mind superiore dreamed of the leaves and created these caves. In every bush and in every bramble, the spirit of Unn manifests". Once again this mysterious figure is spoken of as a higher mind that created this area. Could it be an entity with the same power as the King?

Fearsome opponents

At this point try to continue into the room on the left, where you will immediately hear the verses of a green caterpillar. Here we are blocked for now, however: we must therefore continue to the right.

We will be immediately attacked by a new and fearsome enemy, a Mossy Knight. This opponent is armed with a sword and shield and it's pretty strong, but drops a good amount of Geo. He has two sword attacks, one in which he uses only one slash and another in which he uses two. It can also attack you from a distance by spitting tangles of leaves at you. To fight him, hit his shield, move away and hit him after he sank the missile blow. Once you have mastered the move set it will be child's play. If you want, you could use these enemies to farm Geo.

Now we continue to the right up. Going to the left, ignoring the path above us for now, we will meet a creature in distress, in the jaws of a large insect. If we hit it, a little one will kick off boss fight.

Boss: Royal Trooper
This enemy will attack you with shots from one side of the frame to the other, preceded by a moment when it stops. The attack is easily readable: just jump and hit down to dodge it and do it damage at the same time. Sometimes the Royal Stormtrooper will let out an annoying cry, which will call to fight other small Stormtroopers. Try to get rid of the small ones quickly, while continuing to dodge the larger's attacks.

Once you defeat this mid boss, you will get to know Zote, a very special character. After having a chat with him, we go back to the right and we use the path above. Moving on to the next area we find ourselves in a gloomy room full of dangerous stalactites and some enemies. At the heart of this place there is a block of Geo and another can be found in the upper left corner. Just above the first block there is a passage unattainable for now, but remember this place.

So let's go back and we continue beyond Zote. Here there is a passage down that takes us back to the verdant lands, typical of Verdevia.

Steps to unlock

Stay on the path above and defeat the Rhinodon, and then the second one as well. Here apparently there is nothing but going all the way you will fall into a hidden road where there is a totem: “The Green Children came from dreams in these lands. Here we will wait patiently the call of return. " Once again we talk about dreams, but it is still early to understand what the game refers to. Again it feels the call of a small caterpillar and yes: we are in the area where we could not continue before. So let's look to the right for the platform supported by a vine, in order to unblock the passage. Immediately below us there is a Mossy Knight in defense of the caterpillar. Still below, to the right, the platform to be unlocked. Before continuing to the left, where another Rhinodon awaits us, we go up and go left. Here two Knights defend some blocks of Geo.

At this point, there is a path to the left that would take us forward with history. But before taking it, let's continue downwards. Here we can find the station of the beetles of Verdevia and its bench. It will take 140 Geo to open the station. Once you've done that, talk to the Last Beetle, who will tell you how the vegetation is taking over these places. At this point, let's sit on the bench.

From here we are about to start a complete the exploration of Verdevia!
