Il Game Boost di PlayStation 5 is a feature that will improve the performance of games PlayStation 4 backwards compatible on the next generation console of Sony. Several third-party titles will also be able to take advantage of the feature but we preferred to focus on the improvements that PlayStation 4 exclusive titles will receive, which in some cases may require the installation of an additional patch.

PS5 Game Boost: how does it work?

PS5 Game Boost uses the additional power available in Sony's next-generation console to enhance the performance of backward compatible PS4 software. When enabled, some titles will see significant improvements based on how they were planned. For example, if a game has an unlocked framerate with a theoretical limit of 60 frames per second on PS4 Pro, it could fluctuate between 40 frames per second and 60 frames per second. With PS5, however, this same title would hit 60 frames per second frozen.

GameImprovements
Days GoneIt will shoot at 60 frames per second in dynamic 4K on PS5
Ghost of TsushimaThe game can be played at 60 frames per second on PS5,
God of WarPerformance mode will hit up to 60 frames per second, while on PS4 Pro it hovered around 45 frames per second.

It is important to note that you will only see improvements based on how the game was programmed. If a title has a limit of 30 frames per second, the only advantage you will see on PS5 is that it will never drop below 30 frames per second; it should be patched to go further. The same goes for termination; some games use scalers that alter the resolution based on what's happening on the screen. In these cases, PS5 will approach the theoretical maximum achievable by the title.

Developers can then apply patches to titles already available on the market to make the most of the Game Boost functionality, such as unlocking framerates and increased resolutions.
